Parish Prison Release Paths
East Baton Rouge Parish Prison is the central adult parish jail. A person may leave after posting bond, a judge's order, time served, sentence expiration, or another lawful discharge. Yet the same movement record may point to Louisiana DPS&C, another parish jail, a hospital, forensic care, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody. That distinction controls the next search. A community release ends confinement at that point. A transfer ends custody only at Parish Prison and begins or continues it somewhere else.
The EBRSO Corrections Division says more than thirty agencies book people at the facility. Its Intake and Release operation includes Central Booking, Bonding, Prison Records, and Classification. When the live name result disappears, ask Inmate Records for the release type, recorded time, holding agency, cleared holds, and destination. A court order can explain the legal cause, but the jail movement entry is the better source for where the person physically went.
| Recorded path | What it means | Best confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or court release | Parish custody may have ended | Jail release entry and court docket |
| DPS&C or another parish | Transfer, not community release | Receiving agency and VINELink |
| Hospital or forensic placement | Custody status may continue elsewhere | Recorded destination and authorized agency contact |
| Federal or ICE hold | Another government may assume custody | Federal docket, BOP, ICE, or USMS channel as applicable |
Confirm a Parish Prison Release
The official EBRSO inmate portal is a current and short historical custody tool. It accepts name, race, sex, and an “In Custody On” date within the recent seven-day span. Results can show a mugshot, arrest date, name, race, sex, and age. The live configuration does not publish a release-date field. A prior-day result proves that the person was present on that chosen day. It does not prove the time, reason, or destination of a later exit.
Use a layered check when the name is gone. Keep the exact spelling, date searched, and any booking number. Then move from roster evidence to a direct custody event record.
- Search the official portal under the full name and, when helpful, the recent “In Custody On” date.
- Call Inmate Records at 225-358-4000 and ask whether the recorded event was a community release or transfer.
- Call Central Booking at 225-358-4009 or Bonding at 225-358-4005 when the issue concerns intake or bond processing.
- Check the 19th JDC case entry for the order, sentence, bond action, dismissal, or other disposition tied to the jail event.
- Contact the named receiving agency when the movement record shows continued custody.
Important: Leaving the Parish Prison roster does not by itself show that the person returned to the community.
Parish Prison Release Records
A written request is the strongest route when a definitive record is needed. EBRSO directs public-record requests through Administrative Services and its online Public Records Center. Ask for existing records rather than asking staff to research a narrative. Supply the full name, date of birth or booking number, and a narrow booking range. Request electronic copies and an estimate before chargeable work. No verified flat local fee or promised turnaround was found, so the custodian's current estimate controls.
The request should distinguish the custody record from investigative material. Louisiana R.S. 44:3 can protect many investigative and security records, while Article 228 keeps the booking book and booking summaries open in the stated circumstances. A focused request is more likely to isolate the objective movement facts.
| Requested field or record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Booking sheet or jail card | Connects the person, booking number, agency, and charge event |
| Booking and release date/time | Fixes the recorded custody window |
| Release or disposition code | Identifies the agency's recorded event type |
| Destination or receiving agency | Separates community release from transfer |
| Charges, bond, and booking photograph | Supplies related public booking items when releasable |
Enter through EBRSO Administrative Services if a saved GovQA session link has expired. Ask for the legal basis for any withheld item and for any reasonably separable public portion. The complete parish search and record path is also set out on the East Baton Rouge Parish released-inmates home page.
Parish Prison Records Contact
Direct the first question to the unit that owns the event. Inmate Records handles custody-record triage. Central Booking and Bonding address intake and bond processing, while the main line can route a call when the precise unit is unclear. No official public release-processing schedule, family waiting area, weekend procedure, or public property-pickup process was located. Staff should be asked for current instructions instead of relying on an assumed exit time.

Have the full name and booking number ready. Ask a narrow question: “Does the record show community release, or does it name a receiving agency?” If the answer identifies another custodian, that agency becomes the source for present status.
Parish Prison Custody Groups
The jail holds adults in several legal positions. Some await trial. Others await a mental-health bed, and newly sentenced people may wait for a DPS&C placement. The same word, “release,” can therefore describe very different doors in the records. Bond can return a pretrial person to the community. A forensic transfer moves a person to treatment under legal authority. A DPS&C transfer starts state custody elsewhere.
The daily figure describes operational turnover, not a public list of community releases. Some counted movements may be transfers or other exits. It also does not guarantee that a named person will be processed at a set time. The source record for an individual event remains the booking and release entry, paired with court or receiving-agency evidence when necessary.
Parish Prison ICE Transfers
ICE appears among the holding agencies configured in the East Baton Rouge portal. An immigration detainer asks a local agency for notice before release and for custody for up to forty-eight additional hours so the Department of Homeland Security may assume custody. In that setting, “released from Parish Prison” means release to another government, not a return to the community. The local release record should identify the destination when that field is releasable.
After a confirmed immigration transfer, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. It searches by a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or by exact name, country of birth, and optional birth information. ICE says ODLS includes current detainees and people released from ICE custody within the last sixty days. It does not search minors. Absence after that window is not proof of present status.
The official ICE detainer explanation defines the possible extra hold. Only a later ICE record can confirm exit from ICE custody. A U.S. Marshals transfer is different, and no public individual USMS release locator was verified. In that case, use the federal docket, the jail movement record, and the responsible federal office.
Parish Prison History and Transfers
EBRSO reports that the oldest part of Parish Prison was built in 1965 and that its last major renovation occurred in 1988. The agency also describes a large adult capacity and several groups awaiting other placements. These facts add context to off-site placement, classification, and custody movement entries. They do not prove the release of any named person.
A portal result may reflect an arresting agency, holding agency, or remote location that differs from the jail's street address. Placement options referenced by the system include other parishes, Angola, hospitals, forensic settings, and work release. Treat those labels as routing clues. Confirm them with staff and the receiving office before deciding that confinement has ended.
- Community release
- The person leaves custody at that event, though court duties or supervision may remain.
- Transfer
- One custodian records an exit while another continues lawful custody.
- Detainer
- A request by another authority to hold or notify before that authority assumes custody.
- Discharge
- The end of the custodial or sentence status identified by the issuing agency.
These distinctions keep the search tied to the actual record. A roster is a snapshot. The jail release entry, court record, and receiving-agency response establish the route.
